Michelle Sale has been bridging the gap between families and the education system for more than two decades.

She is passionate about guiding families through the brainstorming, drafting, and polishing of the college application essay, drawing from her own experience as a parent of 2 college students. She has been helping students with college essays for 15 years and is well-versed in the Common Application essay, supplemental essays for competitive schools, and crafting high school resumes. She works independently and with private college counselors. Michelle prides herself on constantly checking in with admissions staff at colleges and universities across the country to ensure she is up to date on how to best position candidates for acceptance letters and scholarship money.

Michelle values the importance of storytelling, learning, growing, and building positive attitudes towards self and towards academic experiences. She truly enjoys helping young people find their voice by finding engaging college application essay topics that unexpectedly respond to the generic Common Application prompts. (Fun Fact: Michelle applied, and was accepted to, 16 competitive colleges by writing about her experience as an art student in a college-level human figure drawing class.) Her creativity and ability to find unique angles from which to showcase who a prospective college student is and why a college should want to get to know them better has turned into a successful business with repeat customers from siblings and friends of families.

Her unique approach to academic coaching makes her an excellent choice to hire when considering support for scholars who are struggling or are in need of an extra challenge.

Michelle currently works as a high school Humanities teacher in a New York City public school, engaging both students with and without IEPs (Individualized Education Plans). Prior to working in New York City, she began a writing program for middle school students and implemented it at a suburban New York school, where she also taught college-readiness ELA.

She began her career as a journalist and freelance writer. In this capacity, she researched and wrote articles for an educational magazine, Disney Adventures, and collaborated with staff at Bank Street College to write lesson plans for The New York Times’ Learning Network. In addition, Michelle has developed lesson plans, written leveled readers, and created teaching materials for companies such as Houghton Mifflin, Pearson, and the International Center for Leadership in Education.
